Collective “oohs” and “aahs” could be heard from the hundreds of Calgarians lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the newly expanded Chinook Centre last night.
Officially opening today, 3,400 people were able to catch a sneak peek of 50 additional stores in the mall’s new wing that took over two years to complete.
“It’s over the top. It’s been a five-year project in the making and I really think Calgarians are going to be very excited and happy,” Chinook Centre general manager Terri Napper said.
“There are a lot of amazing stores for a fashion-forward city like Calgary.”
Invited Calgarians were treated to cocktails, food, shopping deals and mingling as they browsed the $275-million expansion that spans over 180,000 square feet.
The highly anticipated Apple store was a draw for many at the launch, and Mark Simpson said he’s excited to have the popular store “so close to home.”
“I think this was a long time coming and I’m probably going to end up spending way too much money,” he added.
The expansion officially opens this morning at 8 a.m.
