Man, 29, held in Dartmouth attempted murder

A 29-year old man is in police custody after an attempted murder in Dartmouth on Thursday.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a weapons call at a Primrose Street residence just after 7 p.m. on Thursday.

When police entered the residence, they found the victim, a woman in her mid-20s, with her throat cut.

Police allege that a man known to the victim committed the deed.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival, but was found by police a short time later. He is currently in police custody.

HRP spokesperson Sgt. Kevin McNeil could not disclose many details of the case, such as the relationship between the suspect and the victim or the time elapsed between responding to the call and arresting the suspect, pending charges being formally sworn in today.

He did confirm, however, that it appears the victim will survive.

Originally it was reported that it was non-life threatening injuries, and that is still current, said McNeil.
