Man, 57, drowns after boat capsizes

A 57-year-old Boutilier’s Point man drowned Tuesday night when the boat he was in capsized on Ingramport’s Carney Lake.

Neither victim Leslie MacEachern or his fishing companion, a 55-year-old man who survived the incident, were wearing lifejackets when their boat flipped over.

The two men had gone fishing around suppertime. When they didn’t come back by midnight, a relative called RCMP, said Const. Lana Woodfine.

Tantallon RCMP found the survivor on a rock in the middle of the isolated lake, and found MacEachern’s body quickly afterward.

Police are still investigating but alcohol was not involved. Woodfine warned boaters to always wear their lifejackets.

“People should always have PFDs on them. Not in the boat, on them,” Woodfine said.

The survivor was treated at the QEII Health Sciences Centre but was not seriously hurt.
