KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A 32-year-old Kamloops, B.C., man has been acquitted of punishing a three-year-old by putting hot sauce on the child’s tongue.
Shawn Bellows was charged with two counts of assault for the April 2008 incident.
He was also accused of spanking the son of his common-law wife with a wooden spoon.
Bellows told a B.C. Supreme Court judge that his partner used the spicy sauce and administered the spanking, despite testimony from his own daughters, indicating he had punished the boy.
The boy’s mother was convicted of assaulting her son earlier this year.
The child no longer lives with the couple, who are still together.
