An Everett man accused of setting a fire during a police standoff last week was arraigned for assault with a dangerous weapon, among other charges, prosecutors said.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced on Monday thatMark Lavoine, 53, was additionally arraigned in Malden District Court for discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and disorderly conduct in the standoff. Judge Lee Johnson ordered the defendant held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Dec. 30.
“In this case the defendant allegedly threatened the officers on scene and refused to comply with their requests,” Ryan said in a statement. “This was a dangerous situation that thankfully ended without anyone getting hurt.” RELATED:Brocktonman bit off piece of victim’s ear On Friday, Everett Police responded to a report of shots fired on Summer Street. They then entered the home.
Lavoine allegedly refused to comply with police officers’ request that he show his hands and refused to exit the house.
Police said he was armed and had locked himself in a room at the home stating that he would take officers out if they tried to enter. The standoff ended when a fire broke out inside the home.
