Man charged after allegedly beating his cat

A 63-year-old man has been charged with cruelty to animals after allegedly putting his cat in a plastic bag and beating it against the wall of a building.

Vancouver police Const. Jana McGuinness said officers were called to Carrall and Hastings streets on Sept. 18, after witnesses reported seeing a man strangling a cat.

When police arrived, they saw Harold Aubrey Borgal allegedly hurling a bag — in which his cat, Herman, was stuffed — against the wall.

“Fortunately, the officers were able to rescue Herman in time and he was taken to the SPCA for treatment of unspecified injuries,” McGuinness said. “He is expected to recover.”

Harold Aubrey Borgal was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals.

He appeared in court yesterday.
