Man charged after cats abandoned for a month

The Ottawa Humane Society charged a 67-year-old man after the emaciated corpses of two cats were found in an unoccupied residence in east Ottawa.

Charles Hogg of Clarence Creek was charged July 29 with four counts of animal cruelty for failing to provide adequate food and water to two cats in his care, and for permitting distress to the animals.

An OHS agent discovered the stench of urine, feces and decomposing flesh inside the home. There were unopened cats of cat food found on the counter, and the only water source was a dirty and stagnant toilet. The man had not lived at the residence for over a month, the OHS said.

He appears in court Sept. 16.
