Man charged with double murder and attempted murder in Surrey, B.C., deaths

SURREY, B.C. – The RCMP have identified two teenaged brothers found dead in a townhouse in Surrey, B.C., and confirmed the man they have charged in the killings is their stepfather.

Police say 66-year-old Mahendra Singh Johal – also known as Mahendra Singh – is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree murder.

Two brothers – 17-year-old Amarjit Gill and 15-year-old Ranjit Gill – were found dead Sunday morning after police responded to a 911 call of a shooting in Surrey.

An unnamed 35-year-old woman was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.

Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Unit says Johal is married to the woman and is the boys’ stepfather.
