Man charged with wife’s death, in court

On the same day that an Ottawa man was scheduled to appear in court for charges of second-degree murder, hundreds of people braved the snow to pay their respects to his wife.

While the visitation for Donna Ellen Jones-Hutt was held in the city’s west end yesterday, Mark Peter Hutt, 33, appeared in court in relation to the city’s seventh homicide of the year.

On the morning of Sunday, Dec. 6, police attended a residence on Barwell Avenue in the Bayshore area, where they discovered the body of a 33-year-old woman.

Following an investigation and autopsy results, police arrested a 33-year-old male resident of Ottawa on Friday.

Hutt now faces charges of second-degree murder.

While family members declined to comment to the media at yesterday’s visitation, friends and co-workers at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency described Jones-Hutt in a Facebook memorial as a “caring and vibrant” young woman who looked on the bright side of life and who lit up the room with her infectious laugh.

“Donna was the best sister,” wrote her sister, Jennifer Jones, on the Facebook page. “She always listened and made me believe in myself … Love you so much.”

Jones-Hutt’s funeral is held at Our Lady of Fatima Church today.
