Man critical after fall while retrieving drone
NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 26: Ambulances evacuate patients at Coney Island Hospital due to the impending Hurricane Irene, which is expected to make landfall in New York City sometime late tomorrow or early the next day, on August 26, 2011 in New York City. Coney Island Hospital, which is just two feet above sea level, will be closing and is in the process of evacuating 240 patients, 24 of whom are in critical condition. A 55-year-old man plummeted from the roof of a Manhattan apartment building while trying to retrieve his drone, police said Sunday.
The man, whose identity wasn’t disclosed by investigators, fell three stories from the rooftop on the building on East 12th Street in the East Village, according to the New York Post.
He had been flying his drone from the roof when it crashed on the roof of an adjacent building. He was attempting to climb down from one rooftop to the other when he slipped onto the roof of the building below, police said.
He was taken to Bellevue hospital in critical condition, police said.
