Man dies after hitting ambulance

A 48-year-old man died in an Edmonton hospital yesterday, the victim of a horrific accident involving an ambulance Monday.

A Rocky Mountain House RCMP officer was put in an ambulance after he believed he came in contact with toxic chemicals while investigating a clandestine drug lab.

En route to the hospital, the ambulance was struck head-on by a minivan driven by a 48-year-old man on Highway 11 near Secondary Highway 752.

The minivan driver died in hospital. A 29-year-old paramedic remained in a Calgary hospital with serious injuries yesterday.

Police believe alcohol may be a factor in the collision.
