Man faces animal cruelty charges after pet seizure in August

An Orleans man faces multiple charges of animal cruelty after the Ottawa Humane Society investigated cases of neglect involving 10 dogs and one cat.

The OHS said Thursday that it charged a 29-year-old man with failing to meet the standards of care for animals in his possession.

In August, Ottawa police and the OHS were called to the man’s home, where they removed 10 dogs, including four adult pit bull-type dogs, four puppies, and two adult Rottweiler-type dogs, and an adult cat, which was found housed in a downstairs bathroom with an overflowing litter pan and no access to water.

Mahamed Tariq Hassain appears in court on Nov. 12.
