Man killed in Whitney Houston’s Bentley connected to notorious Dorchester gang ‘The Point’

The tale of the downfall of Boston’s hardest street gang, the Columbia Point Dawgs, has many subplots, none more bizarre than the murder that took place in Whitney Houston’s Bentley in 1995.

Beef between a Point member and a rival gang member made headlines when a man shot and killed a Columbia Point Dawg sitting in Whitney Houston’s Bentley.

Boston-born pop star Bobby Brown was driving his wife’s luxury car in Roxbury on the night of Sept. 28, 1995 when his bodyguard, childhood friend and soon to be brother-in-law was shot and killed sitting in the passenger seat.

The gunman shot Steven Sealey in the head and took a gold medallion off his neck. Brown ducked under the steering wheel and was unharmed. Sealey died at Boston City Hospital five hours after the shooting. The triggerman, John “Black” Tibbs, was sentenced to 27 years for the killing.

It was rumored that the shooting was connected to an ongoing drug war. Sealey moved from Boston to Georgia, which was one of the states mentioned by name in the FBI’s affidavit detailing the Point’s criminal activities. He was said to be involved in the Boston drug trade and was well-known to the police.
