After trying to shoot an armadillo that wandered onto his property at around 3 a.m., a Texas man ended up in the hospital when the bullet ricocheted off of the animal and hit him in the face. The armadillo’s whereabouts are unknown and it is unclear whether it survived.
This is not the first time a bullet bounced back from an armadillo’s hard shell. In April of this year Sheriff deputies in Lee County Georgia said Larry McElroy accidentally shot his mother when he was trying to shoot an armadillo, WALB.com reports. Similar to the Texas man’s situation, the bullet ricocheted off the armadillo’s back, but then it hit a fence and went into the woman’s mobile home, through the recliner she was sitting in and into her back, WFSB.com reports . The armadillo died from the shot and the mother, Carol Johnson, was taken to a nearby hospital.
Cass County, Texas officials say the man suffered a graze wound to the head and was airlifted to a nearby hospital in Texarkana. His jaw had to be wired shut.
