Man victim of foul play: Police

Police have determined a man found dead on the front lawn of a north-end home last weekend was the victim of foul play.

An autopsy on the body of 21-year-old Melvin Edward Hansen concluded how he died, but police aren’t releasing the cause of death pending further investigation.

A homeowner returning from a Christmas party around 10:45 a.m. discovered Hansen’s body on the lawn of his home at 90 Street and 130 Avenue.

Police did not rule the man’s death homicide immediately, but said the incident was suspicious as he was not dressed for weather conditions. Homicide detectives are considering the possibility Hansen’s death may have been drug-related.

By yesterday afternoon, nearly 750 people had joined a Facebook group dubbed R.I.P. Melvin Hansen.

“I still can’t believe that you are gone. You had such a beautiful smile and always made me laugh! Only the good die young,” Chelsea Upton wrote.

“This isn’t right, man. The last time I saw you wasn’t supposed to be walking out my front door, man,” Andolf Gunderson wrote.

Hansen’s funeral is set for Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church (10727 – 114 St.).

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
