Man who made threats at D.C. airport arrested in Boston: Police

Boston police nabbed a suspect wanted in connection with threats made about Reagan National Airport in Washington after he left a copy of the Quran in front of a government building on Beacon Hill, authorities said Tuesday.

Aziz Rehman Osmani, 22, was taken into custody Monday as a fugitive from justice, police said. He is also allegedly assaulted a Washington police officer.

Boston officers responded to a call Monday morning about a disturbance at a jewelry store near 335 Washington St. Store employees said that an argument broke out after Osmanirefused to return jewelryhe had been inspecting at the counter, police said.

Officers sent images from the security camera footageto the Boston Regional Intelligence Center.

Shortly thereafter, Osmani was seen leaving a “suspicious” package on the steps of the McCormack Building at One Ashburton Place, across from the Massachusetts State House. The building houses several state agencies.

State police found a copy of the Quran, thereligious text ofIslam, on the steps. The bomb squad determined that there was no threat.

Osmani was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. after causing a disturbanceat a shelter in the area of 33 Boylston St. A warrant check showed that he was wanted by Metro Washington Airport Police for “threats made at a ticket counter” and an assault on an officer at the airport.
