Manhattan pizzeria now offers ‘Ground Zero Deep Dish’ pizza: Report

Bravo Pizza on 5th Avenue is trying to shake things up with a small re-brand, owner Mike Steinberg confirmed to Gothamist Friday.

The restaurant will reportedly change its name — to “Big Slice of New York” — and include new menu items named after city landmarks, such as the Empire State Buffalo Chicken and SoHo BBQ Chicken pizzas.

The menu will also include “Ground Zero Deep Dish Pizza.”

The phrase — in a military context, referring to the strongest point of an explosion hitting the earth — might also have a certain resonance with New Yorkers, for reasons that probably don’t need to be explained here.

“I was thinking about taking that off, because I don’t know if we should put that on,” Steinberg, a Long Island native, told Gothamist when asked about the name. “Those aren’t the names exactly, it’s trial and error. I don’t want anybody to take it the wrong way, so that’s why I’m probably going to change it.”

Probably a good call.
