Mankins to sign tender, report on time

One of the Patriots’ biggest potential roster problems will be no trouble at all.

All-Pro guard Logan Mankins will sign his franchise tender and report to training camp on time, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported yesterday.

Mankins, 29, held out until?November last year after negotiations on a long-term contract stalled. He eventually signed a pro-rated $1.54 million restricted free agent tender.

This year’s franchise tender is worth around $10 million. He and the team have until Sept. 20 to work on an extension.

“Early this morning, Logan spoke with [coach] Bill [Belichick] and both are very happy, happy to get started,” Mankins’ agent, Frank Bauer, told ESPN. “Logan is looking forward to being with his teammates and coaches with a fresh start.”

It’s a far cry from last season, when Mankins demanded a trade after contract talks broke down.

After missing seven games, though, he still managed to post his second All-Pro campaign.
