Manners go the extra mile

This holiday season, long lines, lost luggage, flight delays, and many other fun things will await you at the airport. But do you know what will be there when you land??Family, friends and presents. So keep your cool at the airport and make it a more pleasant traveling experience for everyone. Bill Miller, who handles business development for CheapOair.com, shares his tips:

Common courtesy:
Understand that the person next to you is just as anxious as you are to get from point A to point B. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. Clean your hands as much as possible. If you abide by the rules of the gate agents, boarding the airplane will be a much smoother experience for everyone.

A little kindness goes a long way:
While traveling can be stressful, there is no need to make it worse. If you book yourself on a flight with an aisle seat, take a few seconds to tell the person in the middle that if he or she needs to get out for whatever reason, then just nudge you.

Do not make a scene:
Always keep your cool. Airline security across the nation have been trained to watch out for unruly passengers. Get “carried away,” and you could be subject to additional screening or not allowed to fly at all. Having a disagreement with a gate agent over an error by the airline happens a lot. Travelers who approach this rationally with their facts straight usually come out much better than those who approach it with emotion.

Treat the crew with respect:
Face it: Every once in a while, something will go wrong. Instead of getting into an argument with a loud passenger or the parents of a child kicking your seat, just wave down a flight attendant and ask kindly if he or she can change your seat. Throw in a “please” and “thank you,” and you just might find yourself with an unexpected upgrade.

Travel is supposed to be fun:
Remember when going to the airport and flying was fun? Yeah it’s been a while. But remember it will be worth it once you arrive to friends, family or at that tropical resort that serves unlimited margaritas. Try to make the best of it.
