Man’s body found in alley

Homicide detectives have launched an investigation after a man’s bloodied body was found lying in an alley early yesterday morning.

Police were called to an alley off 127 Street and 199 Avenue, where the body was discovered by a passing pedestrian around 2:45 a.m.

“We’re just trying to piece everything together,” EPS homicide Det. Bill Clark said. “There is blood at the scene, but we can’t dwell on the extent of the injuries until the autopsy.”

The victim, a white adult male, was found lying face-up and wasn’t wearing a jacket.

Few leads have surfaced from neighbours, Clark said, adding no suspicious activity was reported in the area around the time the body was discovered.

“We did a bunch of door-to-doors and it was pretty slow and quiet in the neighbourhood last night,” he said.

The cause of death has not yet been released, though police said an autopsy scheduled for yesterday afternoon may shed more light on how the man died.

If ruled a homicide, the incident will mark Edmonton’s 25th murder of the year.
