A local company has donated $1 million to the special fund dedicated to helping those impacted by last week’s Marathon bombings and individuals who want to contribute can now do so by text messaging.

Boston-based New Balance said Monday that it donated $1 million to One Fund Boston, the fund set up by Mayor Thomas Menino and Gov. Deval Patrick to support the Marathon bombing victims. Millions of dollars have already been donated to the fund in less than a week since the tragedy that killed three people and injured nearly 180 others.

New Balance also said that it would match the donations that its employees make to the fund.

“The events at the Boston Marathon shook the streets of Boston but not the spirit of our city,” Anne Davis, executive vice president of administration for New Balance said in a statement. “In the aftermath of this tragedy and the remarkable scenes of heroism and bravery, we have never been more proud to be a part of the landscape of Boston. Our thoughts and prayers are today and always will be with the victims of this tragedy.”

For people who want to donate what they can, they can now do so through text messaging.

Customers of AT&T can text BOSTON to 80108 to give $10 to the fund. The donation will be charged to the customer’s monthly bill.
