Celebrities are still reacting to last week’s expose on Louis C.K., where he was accused, by five women, of sexual misconduct. Marc Maron, a long time friend, said on Twitter last week, “I read the article and none of it is good.” He promised to say more about it on his podcast — WTF with Marc Maron — and he’s kept good on that offer.
On the show’s November 13 episode, Maron said that he asked C.K. about the sexual misconduct rumors, and the “Louie” star dismissed them as just that: rumors.
“Sadly, I knew what most people knew: There was a story out there, I guess going back several years, there were unnamed people in the story, it took place in a hotel room in Aspen,” he said.
“And I would ask him about it. I would say, ‘This story about you forcing these women to watch you jerk off, what is that, is that true?’ He goes, ‘No, it’s not true. It’s not real. It’s a rumor.’ And I would say, ‘Well, are you going to address it somehow? Handle it? Get out from under it whenever it shows up?’ ‘No I can’t, I can’t do that. I can’t give it life, give it air.’ That was the conversation.”
He also went on to say that C.K. represents a larger problem in comedy — that there’s no place for women to report said misconduct, and that men lack the empathy to believe women when they come forward. “It’s hard to understand that that power dynamic is real and it exists, because things have been the way they are for a long time,” he said.
Well, at least somebody knows what’s up.
