March 15 marks anniversary of Boston’s record-breaking snowfall

March 15 marks the one-year anniversary of Boston’s record-breaking snowfall total during the 2015 winter season.

It took 2.9 inches of snow that day to break the previous record of 107.6 inches —a record that was set during the 1995-96 winter season — to bring the total snowfall in 2015 to a record-breaking total of110.6 inches.

The Boston area has only had more than 100 inches of total snowfall two times since snowfall records became available during the 1891-92 season.

Over the last 30 years, Boston has had an average annual snowfall of 43.8 inches.

Winter Storms Juno and Marcus have been recognized as the top 10 heaviest Boston snowstorms of all-time. From Jan. 26-28, 2015 Juno left 24.6 inches of snow in the Boston area. From February 7-10, 2015 Juno left the Boston area with 23.8 inches of snow.
