Marching for missing, murdered women

On a day when couples across the city will be celebrating their love for one another, many will be honouring women who don’t have that opportunity anymore.

Suzanne Dzus is organizing the inaugural Annual Memorial March for Missing and Murdered Women of Calgary and Southern Alberta and said it is important for Calgarians to remember the forgotten.

“This is not just a sex trade issue; this is a violence against women issue. All of these women were daughters and some were mothers, sisters, aunties and they all deserve to be honoured,” Dzus said.

Dzus said the Calgary event started with an email to groups and organizations but was based on the original Vancouver marches.

Those interested are asked to meet at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at 1111 Memorial Dr. NW just outside the Calgary Outdoor Council for the noon march, followed by a potluck.
