Marda Gras puts spotlight on green

Purple, gold and green are the colours of Mardi Gras, however one colour in particular may stand out at Marda Gras Street Festival’s Eco Alley.

For the second consecutive year, the Aug. 8 festival is incorporating green initiatives into their event.

“I think that we have a responsibility to really educate our audiences on how they can be living a more sustainable life,” said Bernadette Geronazzo, who’s serving as executive director of the Marda Loop business revitalization zone.

After opening up her eco-friendly clothing store Edamame Kids just over a month ago in Marda Loop, Amanda Barker said she is thrilled to be apart of Eco Alley.

“We just figured being in the Eco Alley would be a great place for us just because we also share some of the same views,” she said.

Along with local businesses, Eco Alley will be home to organizations like the City of Calgary and Green Calgary.
