Dr. Rick Sacra, the Holden physician who contracted Ebola virus while doing missionary work in Liberia, has been admitted to an area hospital with pneumonia-like symptoms.

He is being treated at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, according to multiple media outlets, and is being monitored in isolation.

Experts, however, say the likelihood of a relapse of Ebola is highly unlikely.

Last month, Sacra became the third American aid worker to be successfully treated for the disease, which has killed more than 3,400 people during this outbreak in west Africa.

Ebola has a fatality rate around 50 percent, according to the World Health Organization, and is spread through bodily fluids.

Sacra’s hospitalization news comes days after another New Englander, Providence-based video journalist Ashoka Mukpo, contracted the disease. Mukpo had been freelancing in Liberia.
