Don’t expect to see the Patriots game or any other NFL match-ups at the Monument Tap in Leominster on Sunday.

The folks behind the Massachusetts bar have decided to not air this weekend’s games due to the recent national anthem protests by football players and other athletes. According to a post shared on the Monument Tap’s Facebook page, the establishment will instead host an event featuring “patriotic music” and pizza.

The Patriots and the NFL decided to “take a knee” and insult our Veterans and our country. Please join us on Sunday as we host Pat Perla with a great selection of patriotic music along with his regular line up. We will put out complimentary pizza, wings and an American flag for each customer. There will be no NFL games shown on Sunday at the Tap.

The bar shared a similar message on its Twitter feed, accompanied by a photo of the American flag.

Owner Mike Cooley told WBZ Radio that the decision to not show the games had nothing to do with politics or President Donald Trump.

“It’s a symbolic gesture mainly to go off not so much on the NFL or if people want to loop in President Trump in it, it has nothing to do with politics,” Cooley said. “It’s just I’ve watched our flag and our national anthem get disrespected for so long, and it just happens to be during the NFL games.”

The Monument Tap is one of several bars around the country that’s boycotting the NFL over the anthem protests, such as Connecticut’s Harp & Dragon. The bar announced this week that it has stopped showing games and will no longer offer gameday specials.
