Matt Damon, Ben Affleck to make Whitey Bulger movie

Hometown boys Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are making a movie about someone equally as famous: James “Whitey” Bulger.

Damon confirmed that he and Affleck are working on the Bulger film, according to GQ.

“We’re doing a Whitey Bulger movie,” Damon told GQ. “Warner’s got it for us.”

Damon said he will also star as Bulger, but he was not sure if he will play the young, violent alleged head of the Winter Hill gang or the older, reclusive fugitive who hid out in Santa Monica, Calif., for 16 years.

Bulger, 82, was arrested in June with longtime girlfriend Catherine Greig. Bulger is accused of 19 murders.

There are various other projects in the works, including a movie based on the book “Black Mass” that also chronicles Bulger’s relationship with the FBI.

It’s not clear where the movie will be filmed, but with Affleck directing, it’s likely that at least some scenes will be shot in Boston, those in the local film industry said.

“Hopefully they will shoot it here. Ben Affleck has shown he loves to come back to his hometown and that he remembers us,” said Angela Peri, owner of Boston Casting. She added that there will be no shortage of people offering to be extras in the film. “It’ll be an interesting movie to make.”
