Mattapan man arrested for 2004 bus stabbing

A Mattapan man was scheduled to be arraigned today for an outstanding warrant stemming from 2004 after he allegedly stabbed someone on an MBTA bus.

According to police reports, Michael Hughes, 64, was arrested in Roxbury yesterday for the incident that occurred on a route 39 bus seven years ago.

Hughes faces assault charges including assault with intent to murder and a civil rights violation.

According to transit police, in 2004 Hughes allegedly stabbed a bus rider several times after a verbal argument took place.

At the time of the arrest, Hughes allegedly provided officers with a fake name.

Police later learned Hughes was a fugitive from justice wanted in Baltimore in connection with a murder, in which he was later convicted, according to reports.

Hughes was transported in September of 2004 to Baltimore and was incarcerated for three years, according to reports.

After his sentence he returned to Massachusetts where he has been residing
