Halifax’s beleaguered sewage treatment plant went back online late last month, and Mayor Peter Kelly is getting his head wet to prove it.
Kelly said he expects to have a swim at one of the two harbour beaches sometime in the next two weeks.
Raw sewage had been flowing into the harbour since January of 2009, when a flood damaged HRM’s main sewage treatment plant.
Beaches closed in the summer of 2009 due to flowing of raw sewage.
Mayor Kelly took a dip in the harbour beaches two summers ago. One week later the beaches were closed for elevated fecal coliform.
