Boston-area commuters were met with crowds of delayed passengers Thursday morning as an Amtrak signal malfunction and disabled Red Line train led to problems throughout the system.
The broken Red Line train near South Station added to the delay headaches, WCVB reported, stating that rail delays have been estimated at between 15 and 40 minutes.
We urge passengers to please take alternate transportation as the Commuter Rail is experiencing major delays due to an Amtrak signal outage.

Problems at South Station were also heavily affected by an Amtrak signal problem causing delays on the Framingham/Worcester, Needham, Franklin, Fairmount, Providence/Stoughton, Middleborough/Lakeville and Kingston/Plymouth lines,WHDH reported.
Many trains are leaving out of the Back Bay station instead of South Station, WHDH added.
“Amtrak crews are actively working to fix the issue and restore scheduled service,” an online Amtrak post was quoted by WCVB. “Passengers should expect delays throughout the morning.”
