McDonald’s franchisees: All-day breakfast was a mistake

Since McDonald’s launched an all-day breakfast menu last week, a number of their franchisees have said it has been a nightmare that has slowed service and sparked chaos in the restaurant’s kitchens, the Daily Mail reported.

Mark Kalinowski, an analyst for the Japanese finance company Nomura, surveyed 29 operators overseeing 226 different locations in the US, the report stated, and he found many of the franchisees to be struggling.

“In small stores, the problems are vast, with people falling over each other and equipment jammed in everywhere,” one franchisee wrote in response to Kalinowski’s survey, the Daily Mail claimed, while another franchisee said, “Customers are abandoning us in droves because we are either too slow, or sub-par quality.”

Some restaurant owners also said the launch has forced them to hire more employees, which has increased costs, according to the Daily Mail.

A franchisee explained in the survey results that the process is “erratic, distorted, disorganized direction from McDonald’s,” the article claimed.

“All-day breakfast is a non-starter. We are trading customers down from regular menu to lower-priced breakfast items. Not generating new traffic,” a separate franchisee added.

It doesn’t appear that the new menu additions will disappear anytime soon though, the report stated, adding that the fast-food giant claims that “all-day breakfast is the No. 1 request we hear from customers.”

McDonald’s has more than 14,000 restaurants across the US.
