Media attention is stunt’s goal, says PR expert

Greenpeace Canada’s spokesperson claimed the Tower stunt was about generating dialogue on Alberta’s environmental destruction. But one public relations expert disagrees.

“I don’t think they’re interested in dialogue. They’re interested in getting their message across,” said Marc Chikinda, dean of communication studies at Mount Royal.

“Dialogue involves a friendly discussion. They’re concerned about getting the media’s attention and they do it spectacularly well,” he said.

“Every time they do one of these things, they get a massive media response.”
