The cause is breast cancer, but one of the biggest, highest-profile teams coming out for the Ottawa-Gatineau Run for the Cure on Sunday is mostly male.
Led by co-captains Police Chief Vern White, Mayor Larry O’Brien, media personality Graham Richardson, and Ottawa philanthropist Shawn Dawson, the 100 Man Run team will be donning pink T-shirts for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation once again.
Team founder Amanda O’Reilly helped start the run four years ago, after losing a good friend, Ottawa resident Michele Brown, to the disease.
“She fought the good fight, but we lost her all too soon,” said O’Reilly.
In its fifth year, the 100 Man Run team has over 167 participants, both male and female, but they’re keeping their name.
