Men’s Olympic hoop qualifying tourney bracket set

Lithuania has been drawn into the same group as tournament host Venezuela in next summer’s men’s basketball qualifying tournament that will determine the final three Olympic berths.

Nigeria also was placed in Group B on Tuesday. Group A is Greece, Puerto Rico and Jordan. Russia, the Dominican Republic and Korea make up Group C; and Group D will be Angola, New Zealand and the Republic of Macedonia.

After round-robin play, the top two teams from each pool advance to the quarterfinals. The teams reaching the finals earn spots in London along with the winner of the third-place game.

The tournament runs July 2-8. Already qualified for the Olympic field are: the United States, Britain, China, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, France, Tunisia and Australia.

Canada failed to qualify after finishing with a 2-5 record at the FIBA Olympic Americas tournament in September.
