Even though the Mets’ incredible 2015 season ended in heartbreak, thestory — from their comeback to breakout players — brought a lot of excitement to fans who haven’t had much to celebrate lately. To keep the momentum going, the team is remembering the good times by hosting a three-day throwback weekend to 1986, when they brought the World Seriespennant came home to Queens. RELATED: What the world was like when the Mets won it all On Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29, the Mets will host the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-dayseries, with giveaways and special events commemoratingthe 30th anniversary of theMets beating the Boston Red Sox for the championship tile: On Friday, May 27, the team’s usual Free Shirt Friday will feature tees with a 1986 World Series design, free to all fans. Saturday’s game will begin with an on-field ceremony honoring the members and coaches of the 1986 winning team. Then on Sunday, the first 15,000 fans will receive a replica of the Mets’ championship ring. Tickets for the Mets’ 2016 season are on sale now.
