Cubs starter Jake Arrieta said it perfectly when he told reporters after Sunday night’s loss, “we’ve got work to do,” after his team fell behind 2-0 to the Mets in the NLCS.

The Cubs seem willing to work their way back into the series as the teams head to Wrigley Field for the next three games, if they are true to their words.

“I really believe strongly in our players that we’ll be able to rebound from this,” Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon told reporters in his postgame presser on Sunday night.

It will have to start at the plate, as the Cubs managed to push across just three runs in two games, hardly a recipe for success. But Maddon seemed unperturbed by that fact.

“These two guys for them [Matt Harvey and Noah Syndergaard] pitched really well,” Maddon admitted, “Our hitting coaches do a wonderful job of preparing our hitters and our hitters are good. Let’s get back to Wrigley, get ready to play and see how it all turns out.”

Managers will often put up a front in terms of portraying to the media the temperature in the room of a losing team, but the Cubs appear to still have their confidence.

“I don’t feel any anxiety or pressure or worry or fear,” Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan told the media after Sunday night’s loss, “It’s just a matter of they out-executed us and won tonight. Now we’ve got to go out and win Game 3.”

David Ross, the Cubs’ veteran catcher, went a step further by telling reporters on Sunday night, “[Maddon’s] not scared of what’s ahead of us. And neither are we.”
