Michael J. Fox grant for BU

The Michael J. Fox Foundation chose Boston University Medical Center as one of 18 official study sites for a landmark clinical study.

“They really are infusing an energy, enthusiasm and drive into the medical community I don’t think I’ve ever seen, or certainly has not been there in a while,” said Dr. Sam Frank of BUMC. “Their drive to move forward, and aggressiveness, is fantastic and motivating.”

The two-year study starting this summer will examine 400 Parkinson’s patients and 200 healthy volunteers.

The foundation is not just funding the project, but running it as well.

“It’s the first large clinical study they are running themselves rather than farming it out,” Frank said.

“They are very excited and have a lot invested in this.”
