Milk Bar teams up with &pizza in Cambridge

Milk bar

After the closure of Tory Row last October and Crimson Corner moving down the road in April, the Brattle Street corner was ready for the taking. &pizza, a Washington D.C. brand focused on community inclusion and radicalness, has submitted a new set of plans for the spot after some approval struggles with the Cambridge Board of Zoning Appeal. The conciliation? Partnering with New York bakery Milk Bar.

“We’ve listened to the community and heard loud and clear that they’re looking for more than just another pizza shop – they want a neighborhood partner,” &pizza CEO and co-founder Michael Lastoria said in a statement. “&pizza stands for connection, inclusion and unity, and joining forces with Milk Bar is a perfect example of how we will bring those values directly to Cambridge.”

Milk &pizza in Harvard Square will be the 13th storefront Milk Bar, the Momofuku Group’s iconic confectionary. Founder Christina Tosi, a James Beard award winner and judge on FOX’s “MasterChef,” is equally eager to expand into Boston.

“The restaurants and cafes in Harvard Square help fuel some of the most brilliant and innovative minds in the world, and I’m so excited for Milk Bar to be part of this community,” Tosi said in the same statement.

Both &pizza and Milk Bar pride themselves on revolutionizing the culinary world with their tempting menu items. Farmer’s Daughter at &pizza, for instance, is a breakfast inspired creation made with Italian sausage, egg and mozzarella. Lori Lane features ingredients like ricotta, berries and powdered sugar for the dessert addicts.

But realistically, Milk Bar takes the cake on sweets. They too offer pies alongside their business partner, with the oat and brown sugar butter filled Crack Pie being a bestseller across all locations. The Birthday cake and truffles are equally addicting with their vanilla and sprinkles bringing you right back to saccharine childhood memories of Funfetti. (Recipes for these treats and others can be found on the Milk Bar website).

Details on construction and an official opening date will be released later this summer.
