Walker Buehler pitched into the eighth inning, Trea Turner had a pair of hits and scored twice and the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to eight games with a 3-2 victory over the visiting New York Mets on Friday.
Buehler (13-2) gave up two runs on six hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. Justin Turner, Max Muncy and Corey Seager each drove in a run for the Dodgers, who have won 12 of their last 13. Five of the eight victories in the winning streak have come against the Mets.
Pete Alonso hit a home run for the Mets, who have lost seven of their past eight, a run that started last weekend when they were swept at home by the Dodgers. Alonso also had an RBI infield single in the eighth.
Yankees 10, Twins 2
Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched a career-high seven innings and Luke Voit drove in four runs on four hits as New York routed visiting Minnesota.
The Yankees extended their season-high winning streak to eight games. New York also won for the 20th time in 25 games since dropping three of four at Fenway Park to the Boston Red Sox last month.
In his ninth career start, Cortes (2-1) allowed two runs and four hits. He tied a career high with seven strikeouts, walked two and threw a career-high 104 pitches.
White Sox 7, Rays 5 (11 innings)
Tim Anderson hit a game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning and go-ahead single in the 11th as Chicago topped Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Ryan Tepera recorded the final three outs to notch the save, helping Chicago rebound from squandering a late lead and win for the fourth time in five games. Austin Meadows lined a go-ahead, two-run single to cap a three-run eighth inning rally that put the Rays ahead 5-4.
White Sox starter Lucas Giolito struck out eight and allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings. Liam Hendriks (8-3) picked up the victory in relief, and Andrew Kittredge (8-2) took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) and one hit in two innings.
Athletics 4, Giants 1
Josh Harrison stroked a two-run single and Starling Marte used his bat and his legs to produce two key runs as host Oakland defeated San Francisco in the opener of a three-game series.
James Kaprielian (7-4) combined with four relievers on a five-hitter. He went five innings, allowing one run on three hits. He walked four and struck out four. Lou Trivino handled the ninth inning for his 21st save.
Mike Yastrzemski hit his 19th home run of the season for the Giants. Alex Wood (10-4) worked five innings gave up two runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out nine.
Indians 9, Angels 1
Franmil Reyes belted a three-run homer in the first inning and added a two-run single in the sixth to propel host Cleveland to a victory over Los Angeles.
The five-RBI performance was the third of Reyes’ career. Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez homered to lead off the eighth inning, his team-leading 28th long ball of the year and second in as many games. The blast capped the Indians’ 15-hit barrage.
The Angels’ Jose Marte gave up one hit and struck out four in two innings of relief in his major league debut.
Nationals 4, Brewers 1
Patrick Corbin snapped a six-start winless streak, tossing 6 1/3 strong innings as Washington won at Milwaukee.
Lane Thomas laced a two-run triple in the fourth and Riley Adams added an RBI single in the sixth. Corbin (7-12) allowed one run — on an Avisail Garcia homer — on three hits and walked none while striking out seven. Kyle Finnegan earned his fifth save.
Brewers starter Brett Anderson (4-7) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 5 1/3 innings.
Braves 3, Orioles 0
Max Fried tossed a four-hit shutout and visiting Atlanta defeated Baltimore for its season-best seventh straight win.
It was the first career shutout for Fried (11-7). He struck out four batters without a walk while throwing 90 pitches. Trey Mancini’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Orioles.
Travis d’Arnaud, who agreed to a two-year contract extension on Thursday, smacked a two-run homer for the Braves, who have won 14 of 16 to take the lead in the NL East. He added a single and also reached on a walk.
Red Sox 6, Rangers 0
Chris Sale hurled five shutout innings in his second start back from Tommy John surgery, and host Boston got back on track with a series-opening win over Texas.
Xander Bogaerts homered and drove in two runs, and Enrique Hernandez and Alex Verdugo each added two RBIs as the Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak. Boston slugged six doubles among 10 hits.
Sale (2-0) allowed five hits and a walk while striking out five. Rangers starter Dane Dunning (5-8) surrendered five runs on nine hits and one walk, whiffing one. Andy Ibanez had two of the Rangers’ seven hits. Texas has dropped four straight.
Phillies 4, Padres 3
Bryce Harper clubbed a two-run homer and Philadelphia overcame issuing 10 walks to snap a four-game skid with a victory at San Diego.
Harper’s blast highlighted a three-run third inning, and J.T. Realmuto and Andrew McCutchen each had an RBI double for the Phillies. Ian Kennedy pitched 1 1/3 innings for his fourth save in as many chances since coming over from Texas last month.
Manny Machado hit a two-run homer but later was ejected as the Padres lost their fourth consecutive game.
Astros 12, Mariners 3
Yordan Alvarez homered and drove in four runs to pace an offensive onslaught as Houston bashed four home runs and rolled over visiting Seattle.
Alvarez was one of five Astros with a multi-hit game as Houston scored at least two runs in each of the first five innings. Seven starters drove in at least one run as Houston pounded out 15 hits, eight for extra bases, to secure the opener of a three-game series.
Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. (10-4) threw six innings of two-run ball. He gave up five hits and one walk while striking out eight.
Pirates 4, Cardinals 0
Gregory Polanco drove in two runs and Mitch Keller pitched five scoreless innings as Pittsburgh notched a victory at St. Louis.
Yoshi Tsutsugo added a pinch-hit homer in the ninth as the Pirates halted a five-game losing streak and won for just the third time in their past 18 games. Both of Polanco’s RBIs came on sacrifice flies.
Keller (4-10) struck out six and gave up six hits and one walk while ending a five-start winless stretch. Lars Nootbaar had three hits for St. Louis, which lost for the third time in four games.
Tigers 4, Blue Jays 1 (10 innings)
Pinch hitter Harold Castro singled home the go-ahead run with two outs in the 10th inning and visiting Detroit went on to defeat Toronto.
Willi Castro, who started the 10th at second base, scored on Castro’s single against Trevor Richards (5-2). Following the go-ahead hit, Robbie Grossman walked before Adam Cimber took over on the mound. Cimber allowed RBI singles to Jonathan Schoop and Jeimer Candelario.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 36th home run of the season for the Blue Jays, who were playing their first game after a 3-6 road trip.
Reds 5, Marlins 3
Sonny Gray allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings, leading host Cincinnati to a win over Miami.
The Reds’ offense was led by Tyler Naquin, who tripled, homered and scored two runs. Joey Votto also added some pop, hitting his 28th homer of the year, a two-run shot.
Votto’s homer came immediately following a hit-by-pitch on Nick Castellanos. This was the fourth straight time that a Castellanos hit-by-pitch has been followed by a Votto dinger. In his past 53 games, Votto has 20 homers and 52 RBI. In his first 41 games, he had eight homers and 29 RBIs.
Royals 6, Cubs 2
Salvador Perez belted two of Kansas City’s five home runs and the visiting Royals opened a three-game series against Chicago with a victory.
Andrew Benintendi, Emmanuel Rivera and Cam Gallagher also homered for Kansas City, which won for the fourth time in its last five games.
Royals starter Brad Keller (8-12) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings and won for just the second time in his last 13 starts. He struck out eight and walked one.
Rockies 9, Diamondbacks 4
Garrett Hampson homered, C.J. Cron had three hits, and Colorado beat Arizona in Denver.
Connor Joe and Brendan Rodgers had two hits each for Colorado, which has won eight straight home games. Ketel Marte homered among his two hits and Asdrubal Cabrera, Pavin Smith and Josh Rojas had two hits each for Arizona.
Diamondbacks starter Tyler Gilbert, who threw a no-hitter in his first career start on Aug. 14, allowed four runs on nine hits in five innings.
