Christian Yelich homered twice, and Yasmani Grandal added a homer and four RBIs as the visiting Milwaukee Brewers won their third in a row with an 11-3 victory Thursday over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Ryan Braun continued his torrid offensive pace in Philadelphia, collecting three hits and reaching safely five times. Mike Moustakas also had three hits and homered in the ninth. Yelich was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.
Brewers starter Zach Davies (5-0) was sharp over six innings, giving up four hits and three runs, one earned. Davies struck out five, walked one and also added two hits at the plate. The Brewers were walked seven times and hit by a pitch three times.
Yelich, who posted his fifth career multi-home run game Thursday, leads the majors with 18 home runs this season.
Nationals 7, Mets 6
Gerardo Parra went 3-for-3, including a homer, drove in three runs and scored three as host Washington beat New York and won a series for the first time in a month.
Kurt Suzuki added three hits and two RBIs for the Nationals.
Nats closer Sean Doolittle allowed RBI singles to Wilson Ramos and Juan Lagares in the ninth as New York got within a run. He struck out Keon Broxton with the bases loaded to end the game, sealing his seventh save.
A’s 17, Tigers 3
Jurickson Profar’s grand slam highlighted a six-run third inning, Josh Phegley had four hits and drove in four runs and visiting Oakland clobbered slumping Detroit.
Phegley ripped two singles, a double and a homer as the A’s snapped a three-game losing streak. Marcus Semien hit a three-run homer and Matt Olson and Mark Canha also went deep for Oakland, which banged out 16 hits. Robbie Grossman added two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Oakland starter Chris Bassitt (2-1) tossed eight scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out seven.
Rangers 16, Royals 1
Visiting Texas scored eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings to fuel a lopsided victory over Kansas City.
Willie Calhoun and Joey Gallo each had a career-high four hits, including a home run. Rougned Odor homered twice and the Rangers set season highs in runs and hits (21).
Lance Lynn (5-3) pitched seven innings, allowing one run on six hits. It was his fifth quality start, half the Rangers’ total for the season.
Indians 14, Orioles 7
Jason Kipnis belted two homers, drove in a career-high six runs and scored three times as host Cleveland beat Baltimore.
Carlos Santana had three RBIs, and Francisco Lindor, Carlos Gonzalez, Jose Ramirez and Leonys Martin each had a run-scoring hit for the Indians, who established a season high in runs for the second straight game. Cleveland, which also notched a season-best 14 hits, cruised to a 9-0 romp over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.
Trey Mancini launched a three-run homer, and Rio Ruiz belted a two-run shot for the Orioles, who have lost seven of their last eight games overall and 12 of their last 15 versus the Indians.
Reds 4, Cubs 2
Ace Luis Castillo worked 5 1/3 innings to notch his team-leading fifth win in Cincinnati’s victory over visiting Chicago, in a game that was interrupted by a rain delay of nearly two hours.
Castillo (5-1) won his fifth straight decision, allowed just two hits — both in the first inning — fanned six and recorded one out in the sixth before departing after the lengthy delay.
Raisel Iglesias struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his ninth save, as the Reds won two of three in the series.
Braves 10, Cardinals 2
Veteran right-hander Julio Teheran stole a little thunder from rookie teammate Austin Riley, using his arm and his bat to push Atlanta to victory over visiting St. Louis.
Riley went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in his second big-league game. His double missed leaving the yard by a foot. But the night belonged to Teheran, who pitched five shutout innings, squeezed home a run and singled home another.
It was the third straight outstanding start for Teheran (3-4). He allowed two hits, four walks and struck out four in squaring his career record against the Cardinals at 3-3. Teheran has given up only one run over 17 innings in his last three starts.
White Sox 4, Blue Jays 2
Ryan Cordell had two hits and two RBIs and drove in the winning run on a suicide squeeze, while the pitching staff threw a combined two-hitter to lift host Chicago past Toronto.
Alex Colome pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his ninth save in as many chances for the White Sox, who won for the fourth time in five games.
Cordell’s sacrifice bunt in the eighth inning broke a tie, before Leury Garcia provided an insurance run with a sacrifice fly RBI. Kelvin Herrera (1-2) was the winner, pitching around two walks in the eighth to keep the game tied, and setting the stage for Chicago’s late-game heroics.
Twins 11, Mariners 6
Michael Pineda pitched seven strong innings against his former team and was backed by four home runs as Minnesota defeated host Seattle in the opener of a four-game series.
Byron Buxton and C.J. Cron hit home runs in a seven-run fourth inning against Mariners right-hander Erik Swanson (1-5). Buxton hit a three-run shot, and Cron’s homer deep into the second deck in left field scored two as the American League Central-leading Twins took a 9-1 lead. Jason Castro and Max Kepler hit solo shots in the third inning off Swanson, who gave up eight runs on nine hits in three-plus innings.
Pineda (3-3), a burly right-hander who began his career with the Mariners in 2011 before being traded to the New York Yankees, allowed three runs — all on solo homers — on five hits. He struck out six without a walk.
Padres 4, Pirates 3
Struggling second baseman Ian Kinsler hit a three-run homer off reliever Richard Rodriguez in the sixth inning to lead San Diego to victory over visiting Pittsburgh in the opener of a four-game series.
Eric Hosmer singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth and advanced to second when Wil Myers drew a two-out walk from Rodriguez. Kinsler, whose batting average had tumbled to .166 after his first two at-bats in the game, then drove a 1-2 slider off the second-deck balcony of the Western Metal Supply Co. building in left.
Padres reliever Adam Warren (3-1) got credit for the win. Kirby Yates earned his 17th save in as many chances with a perfect ninth inning. Rodriguez (0-3) took the loss.
