The clock is ticking on the New York Mets to make good on their seller’s reputation at this year’s MLB trade deadline, which comes to a head on Monday, July 31.

With a number of prospective free agents come the offseason, the Mets have players to sell. But none are getting more attention than impromptu closer Addison Reed, who has performed admirably at the position since taking over for the troubled and injured Jeurys Familia

The 28-year-old has 18 saves and a 2.63 ERA and has caught the attention of numerous teams.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that the best team in baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers, are interested in acquiring Reed in order to bolster their bullpen for an impending postseason run.

Jerry Crasnick, also of ESPN, added that the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox could also be in on the reliever, who is usually an eighth-inning man, not a closer.

But the Mets could be dealing Reed and more together in order to maximize their returns. Newsday’s Marc Carig noted that the team has “kicked around the idea” of making Reed the centerpiece of a larger transaction.
