Many bargoers are gladly trading the idyll of summer for the beginning of football season. New York City is a passionate sports town with rabid followers of both the Giants and the Jets, and everywhere you look there are food and drink specials just begging you to take advantage. Here are some local gems for game day.
Croxley Ales (28 Ave. B)
Every Sunday, you’ll find 20-cent wings and 10-cent boneless wings. During the week, catch $5 Beer of the Week specials — or get one of the 40 varieties on tap. Monday through Friday from 4-7 p.m. all drinks are $1 off, and on Fridays from 5-7 p.m. there is a free buffet at the bar. Score!
Dalton’s(611 Ninth Ave.)
With twenty 50” TVs, $4 beers and $5 shots 365 days a year, Dalton’s know what you want. During football games, the wings are 25 cents, pitchers are $16 and two foot-long hot dogs with a beer are $12. Located near the Port Authority, this is a good choice to meet friends coming into the city on Sundays. I like the sliders with fries for $12.95.
Village Pourhouse (982 Amsterdam Ave.)
This is a good choice for larger groups to spread out among several rooms and a large bar area. On Sundays, take advantage of $5 mimosas and Bloody Marys, $10 pitchers and $20 margarita pitchers. The Drunken Chili ($6) is amazing. On Monday nights, go for the $16 unlimited wings and Bud Light for two hours. They always add additional food specials during events.
