Moosehead Dry claims championship in Game 4

Dartmouth Moosehead Dry isn’t over the hill. The Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League club is king of it, still.

The Dry edged the defending champion Halifax Pelham Molson Canadians 4-3 last night at Mainland Common in Game 4 of the best-of-seven NSSBL final to capture the fifteenth title in the franchise’s 20 years of existence.

Although Dartmouth’s core players are older veterans who have been around for two decades, the sweep left no doubt they’re still this province’s team to beat.

“Fifteenth championship, that’s something special,” said Dry’s Joel Irvine, who has been around since the first title in 1990. “Winning championships never gets old. That’s what we do here. A lot of people have whispered behind our backs (about being too old), maybe not to our faces, but we answered the bell.”

Dartmouth rode strong pitching from Shain Beaudreau to victory. The 19-year-old started just his second game of the season but went the distance in a sensational four-hitter.

Dartmouth trailed 3-2 entering the seventh inning but scored twice, getting the winning run from Dan Comeau when Colin Johnson was struck by a pitch with the bases loaded.
