Moroccan police catch inmate who made daring helicopter escape from Belgian prison

RABAT, Morocco – The Moroccan news agency says police have arrested a man who made a dramatic helicopter escape last month from a Belgian prison along with two other inmates.

The official MAP news agency said the inmate which it identified as Ashraf Sekkaki has been arrested in Al-Hoceima in northern Morocco. Five others were arrested for helping him hide out. MAP cited police officials but provided no names.

The agency said Sekkaki, a Moroccan who was convicted of bank robbery, was arrested Sunday. It noted that another escaped convict, Mohamed Johri, was arrested in Berkane in northeast Morocco three days earlier. It says the third was arrested in Belgium on Aug. 3.

They escaped from a prison near Bruges July 23.
