Diary entries reflect a long history of mental-health issues for Harsimrat Kahlon, a woman who was found dead with the bodies of her three infant children in October 2009.
Investigators from the Calgary Police Homicide Unit have finished their analysis of the case.
Kahlon suffered from borderline personality disorder, said forensic psychologist Dr. Thomas Dalby, who was part of the investigation.
Dalby said interviews with her family and friends, combined with her diary entries, created a psychological autopsy for the woman.
Kahlon gave birth to the first child in hospital in 2005, while delivering the other children alone in her house, according to police.
“Borderline personality disorder has as one of its cardinal features a terror of being abandoned,” said Dalby. He noted that she kept the deceased children in close proximity to her at all times.
She kept her pregnancies secret from her common-law partner who fathered two of the children, police said.
Kahlon was “significantly depressed at times and looked at herself as worthless.” She did not confide in anyone about her problems, Dalby said.
