Finally getting the recognition it wanted, Mount Royal College is no more.
“From this day forward, this fine institution will be known as Mount Royal University,” said Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach.
“I confidently predict that Mount Royal will become Canada’s top-ranked university when it comes to every single measure out there when it comes to student success or satisfaction,” said Mount Royal president David Marshall.
A bold statement of intent going forward from Marshall, but the recognition as a university is something he feels Mount Royal already deserved, with seven Baccalaureate degrees on offer.
“The label of university ensures there is no confusion in the institution that will accept students for further study or with future employers regarding the nature of this institution or the degrees that we offer, and I think that is truly worth celebrating today.”
The new university will continue to operate in the way it has, and the change in name will not change tuition, funding or the degrees offered. The university will remain focused purely on undergraduate courses and will not have a research element.
