Movie Review: Insidious

Genre: Horror
Director: James Wan
Stars: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins

Don’t go into James Wan’s latest horror thriller Insidious and expect Saw. Sure, it was that franchise making 2001 hit that put Wan (and writer Leigh Whannell) on the map, but Wan ain’t a one trick torture porn pony. Insidious sees the filmmaker mining the elegance of classic supernatural shockers like Burnt Offerings and Poltergeist while sculpting a contemporary ghost story that is as gorgeously produced as it is blood freezingly frightening. And to its credit, there’s not a single drop of blood spilled….

Rose Byrne and Patrick Watson star as parents under the strain of domestic demands who are inexplicably torn apart by the arrival of the evil dead. Said specters knock their eldest child into a coma while driving the couple mad doing all those smashing, snarling things ghosts tend to do to make their presences known.
