An impressive debut feature, The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom is punctuated with solid performances, a keen eye on the art direction of the 1970s and Canadian themes: It juggles both a coming of age tale and a road trip – two staples firmly fixed in Hollywood North’s wheelhouse.
