Filmmaker Chaz Thorne lays the quirkiness on thick in his new comic-drama, Whirligig. When an anxiety-ridden ex-Mormon returns to Nova Scotia, he hits rock bottom alongside his eccentric parents and their equally dysfunctional neighbours. While star Gregory Smith is a bright light of abnormality, the story’s novelty soon grows cumbersome.
